To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States
Your petitioners would respectfully represent that the convenience of the public would be much promoted by a daily Mail between Ithaca in Thompkins Co and Bath in Steuben County in the State of New York passing through Truman Mills & [Cuyuterville?] in Thompkins to Odessa Havana & Towns Settlement in Chemung County and Monterey in Steuben Co.
The above named villages are rapidly increasing in population and wealth and already a vast amount of business is daily transacted in them & the community suffer great inconvenience and loss from the Sparseness & infrequency of the mails.
Your petitioners would further represent that the route above dessignated is decidedly the most level direct & shortest (being about 60 miles) that can be found between the above named places & that the roads are in a sufficiently improved state for the transmission of mails in Post Coaches such that a daily mail in Stages would not only increase the business facilities but greatly add to the Revenue of the Post Office Department.
We therefore Pray that Congress will pass a Law authorizing the above mentioned Mail Route and is deman[ded] by the interest of the community & the People generally
