To the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled—To the first Assistant Post Master General
We the undersigned inhabitants of the county of Ionia and State of Michigan would respectfully request that Post Route No 3759 running from Ionia through Wheatland Otisco to Greenville ^and, Montcalm^ in the county of Montcalm be so altered as to commence at Lyons in said County thence to North Plains P. Office thence through the town of Ronald westerly to Wheatland in the township of Orleans being the point of the intersection of said Route This alteration will not delay any mail matter intended for the post offices of Wheatland Otisco & Greenville but will accommodate the inhabitants of the township of Ronald as well as supply the post office at North Plains by increasing the distance of the said Route No 3759 only five miles as will appear by the diagram hereunto annexed while the five mile Route from Lyons to North Plains P. Office will be merged in the alteration nor will a single P. Office be omitted which which is now supplied by the said Route No 3759

The Dept considers this to be a change that it cannot order. It is tantamount to the establ of a new route, which Congress only can [inate?]. Besides the propriety & [?] of having this route from ^a place at [this?] [relative?] importance it^ Ionia is doubted.
