To the Hon The Members of the Senate and house of Representatives in Congress assembled.
The undersigned, your petitioners citizens of the county of Whitley and ^Huntington^ State of Indiana, Represent, that—The citizens of said county Especially in the south
part of the same, are laboring under great inconvenience in the consequence of having no mail matter passing through said section of the country,
They would further represent that the south part of said county is fast settling,
and that there is at the present time a very important thoroughfare passing through
said county from Huntington to the county[...?] seat of said County of Whitley and that no mail passes through on said thoroughfare
although the same would be of the utmost utility—, your petitioners therefore pray
your Honorable body to grant and establish a mail route rto run from the Town of Huntington in Huntington county to the Town of Columbia the
county seat of the county of Whitley, to run on the most direct travelled route or
road as aforesaid
And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray
