TO THE HON. CAVE JOHNSON, POSTMASTER GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES.Sir;—
The undersigned petitioners, citizens of Jefferson County, O., believing the public convenience demands, would respectfully pray, for the carrying of the U.S. Mail, at least once a week, between the following points, viz;—From Steubenville, Jefferson County, O., to Cross Creek village, Smithfield, Ong’s Mills, to Mt. Pleasant, of the county and State aforesaid. To leave Steubenville every Friday morning, and to return the evening of the same day—a distance of 42 miles. There being no Post Office within an area of 20 miles, through which the proposed Mail is to pass. The undersigned deem a further expression of is necesity snperfluous.
