To the honorable Senate and the honorable House of Representatives of the United States
of America in Congress assembled
The petition of the undersigned citizens of the counties of Yell and Johnson in the
State of Arkansas respectfully sheweth that they have little or no mail accommodation
it being to many of us a journey of from ten to twenty to our nearest Post office,
that the section of country in which we live is rapidly increasing in population and
presents no obstacle to the transmission of mailable matter good roads having for
years been open and kept in good repair
Your petitioners therfore pray your Honorable Body to establish a weekly horse mail route commencing at Chickalah
village in Yell county and running past the houses of Mathias Harkey of Yell county
and of Jourdan Thompson in Johnson County to Morrison Bluff in Johnson the whole route
being thirty miles
Your Petitioners would also pray your Honorable body to establish a Post office on
said route at the house of Mathias Harkey ^in Yell county^ to be called “Pleasant valley” and do recommend Mathias Harkey for Post Master—and
also a Post office on said route at the house of Jourdan Thompson in Johnson County
<Page 2>
to be called “Shoal Creek” and do recommend Jourdan Thompson for Post Master
And your petitioners as in duty bound shall ever pray
