Mechanicstown Dec. 30th 1847.Dear sir,
map
After my respects to you
We understand there is a petition getting up about Carrollton to have a Hack Mail
rout from New Philadelphia to Wellsville by the way of Carrollton and we hear the
want it to go three miles south of us ^by^ Robert Georges Esqr thence to Monroesville Jeffern County thence to Salinesville Columban County then
to Wellsville. I would state to you that it should ^go^ from Carrollton to Mechanicstown from Mechanicstown to Salinesville or it might go
to Salinesvill by way of Monroesville which would be two miles fartherit is much the levelest and best road from Carrollton to Wellsville through Mechanicstown
and is the road that all the travelling is done from Carrollton to Wellsville ^at this time^it would also be an advantage to our village and post office. I and a number of your
good old friends would ask of you to intercede for us to establish on our road and
also ask to detain proceedings as we intend to forward on a petition for the same
in a short time to you
your RespectfullyBenjamin BorieH. G Fries Esqr<Page 2>
