To the Honl Cave Johnson P M General
Your petetioners citizens of Montgomery and Chester Counties Penna respectfully ask the P. M General to establish a mail route from Norristown to Phoenixville
Chester County Pennsylvania Via: Shannonville and Lumberville to Phoenixville you
are aware that we now have a mail from Norristown to shannonville which is about half
the dstance, And as the Stage runs daily from Norristown to Phoenixville, we can see
no good reason why the route should not be extended to Phoenixville. As such arrangement
would greatly accomodate the citizens generally, in the vicinity of Norristown & Phoenixville
and along the route, under the present arrangment it requires two days to convey a
letter from Norristown to Phoenixville or from Phoenixville to Norristown a distance
of 10 miles as there is no route except by the way of Philadelphia which increases
the distance to nearly 50 miles, owing to the Extensive Iron works both in Norristown
and Phoenixville there is consequently considerable correspondence between the two
places. your petetioners therefor respectfully pray you to grant the extension of the mail route as above petitioned for by

There is no route by law declared to exist between these points directly Both are
supplied by the rail road running on the opposite side of the train by means of mail
^messengers^ crossing from the road to the office. A further law would have to be enacted before
this service could be ordered into operation.
