State of Arkansas
& Countys of Saline & Jefferson
To the the Honorable Senate and house of Representatives in Congress assembled.
We the citizens of the State and counties aforsaid beg leave most respectfully to present to your honorable Body this our petition, praying that you grant us a continuation of our present mail route, or rather that you extend our present route established from Benton the County site of Saline Co. to lost-Creek, on to Pine Bluff the County site of of Jefferson Co.; crossing Hurricane Creek at Hesters Bridge via H. Carrs. The continuation ^or extension^ of this route will supply this section of Country with what mail facilites we need better than both of the routes esstablished by the Last Congress, [...?] one from Benton to Warren in Bradly County and the other from Pine Bluff to Washington, Hemstead Co.; the last of which we were informed was granted through mistak suppososing it to be in Texas, and the former was granted on an old petition that had been forgotten by us and supposed it not in exhistence, hense since we considered the old petition as extinct, and indeed not at all suited to our present wants, the settlements roads &c having been changed, we petitioned for, and obtained the side route above named, fearing to ask for the whole route through to Pine Bluff for fear that we would fail to get any. But since we have learned that both of the routes established last session as above named have failed or been discontinued we pray for the extension of our old route as by doing so two other nieghborhoods, such of which ones as populous as the lost-creek neighborhood would be accommodated with mail facilites, by establishing two other offices in those nieghborhoods, which we will petition for as soon as this our petition is granted. Thus two other offices can be supplied by the same carrier at only about double what it now costs to supply the one, as the distance would only be about about 34 or 5 miles or in all double the present distenc from Benton to Lost-Creek.
Respectfully submited

P. S. This petition was got up in a hurry as Congress being in session not time should be delayed, hense we transcribe a few names from a former petition partly got up ^but^ upon Learning of the other routes being granted we desested,^.^ Could we have time we could swell our list to allmost any requered number but deem the above suffcnt &c
