To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, in Congress assembled
Your Petitioners, Citizens of the County of Livingston in the state of Michigan would respectfully represent unto your Honorable Body that there is at present no direct communication by mail from Howell the county sete of said County to the southwestern towns in said county in one of which towns is the Post office of Pinckney, that the distance from Howell to Pinckney is 12 Miles and that the shortest mail route from one place to the other is 50 miles by the Ann Arbor & Howell Route, 30 miles, from thence west to Dexter in the county of Washtenaw & from thence to Pinckney by the Special mail route from Dexter to Pinckney. And we would further represent that the direction from Howell to Dexter is nearly south & 22 miles ^distant^ by way of Pinckney, and that it would be a matter of great convenience to the inhabitants of Howell, of Pinckney, & Dexter, as well as, to those of Marion and Putnam, through which the route would pass to have a direct communication by mail from Dexter, by way of Pinckney through the Townships of Putnam & Marion to Howell. We would therefore petition your Honorable Body for the passage of a law Establishing a mail Route from said Dexter in the County of Washtenaw by way of Pinckney
