To the Honorable the senate and house of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled
The Petition of the undersigned citizens of the Counties of Montgomery Bercks and Lehigh in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Respectfully Represents
That in consequence of the increase in population and business along the route hereinafter designated a twice weekly mail is much needed to runn from Norristown in the County of Montgomery to Allentown in the County of Lehigh by the following route viz From Norristown to Jeffersonville thence by Perkiomen Bridge Post office thence by Post office at Schwenks Store thence by the Post office at Frederick thence by Colebrookdale thence by Dale Post office thence by Emans Post office to Allentown
Your Petitioners would respectfully suggest that a New Turnpike or macadamized road has been made from Perkiomen Bridge along a part of this route within the last year, which will give facilities for the transportations of the mail and that the improvements of the numerous water powers on the Perkiomen creek and their application to manufacturing purpose the consequent great increase in business in Capital and population along the route essentially requires improved mail facilities the most of the above mentioned Post office are now only served once a week by the mail carrier and this by cross mails from the Trappe and from Pottstown which besides being irregular and causing great delay in communications are entirely insufficient for the business wants of the People
Your Petitioners therefore respectfully ask your Honorable Bodies that the said route may be established as a post road and that the necessary laws may be passed for the regular transportation of the mail along it either twice weekly as shall seem best and they will Pray &c
