Paper Mill Village Jan. 12, 1849.Mr. HenryDear Sir,
You will reccollect I had Some Conversation with you about having a Mail Rout established
from Paper Mill Village in Alstead to Bellows Falls V.t. I understand they have advertised
the Mail Routs, also one from B. Falls to Drews Ville that is not what the people
want here. You know the people here & at your place want a daily Mail from this place
to Bellows Falls. Starting from this village about 9. O. Clock A.M. arriveing at B.
Falls before the arrival of the Car[...?]^s^ from Boston, that gives the Mail a chance to go any direction also back to Boston
the same day. we can then get the Mail from Boston here the same day about one O.
Clock P.M. they can have a Mail from here to Langdon 1½ mile three times a week. they
will be satisfied with that. then the forest rout can be dispenced with from this
place to Charlestown. that will Save 7 miles Travell from Langdon to Charlestown.
you know they is no use in running the mail from Langdon to Charlestown as they is
no Post office between Langdon & Charlestown. we will Send you a Memorial & petition
for the rout Soon we want you to See the Post Master Genral & lay the Matter open
to him & get it established. the mail Can be Carried for $150. a year perhaps less, in Cluding Langdon. if you Should want any thing futher than
what we shall send you in a few days, pleas write me I will attend to it. Col. Hyde
was married last Wednesday
Yours with Respect.Lanson Robertson
