To the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress
met:
THE petition of the undersigned, citizens of Lebanon county, Pa., respectfully showeth:
That the law passed at the last session of Congress, imposing a postage on papers circulating
within thirty miles of their places of publication, tends to curtail the circulation
of intelligence, and detracts from the usefulness of country papers by placing them
in a position in which they are unable to compete with those enjoying more advantages.
Your petitioners would, therefore, respectfully ask for a repeal of so much of said
law as imposes postage on the circulation of papers within thirty miles of their places
of publication.
And they will pray, &c.
