To the honourable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled,
The undersigned believing the transportation of the mail, the delivering of letters &c on the first day of the week, to be a violation of the christian Sabbath opposed to the rights of a numerous class of Citizens, who conscientiously observe that day, injurious in its effects upon public morals, and unsupported by any plea of necessity, on convenience, while it gives offence to the feelings of the christian Community, hereby petition your honourable body to redress the affore said grievance
