Permit me to call your attention to the reduced Pay of Post Masters under the late Post Office Laws and respectfully solicit you to bring the subject before congress at the approaching Session
The Postages received at this office from on Letters and Newspapers from
1st April to 30th June 1846 amounted to $1533.23
From 1st April to 30th June 1847 $16.92. 57
Post Masters Coms[Commissions] from 1st April to 30 June 1846 615.73
"Do[ditto] Do" 1"" 30" 1847 439.76
Difference $175.97
Letter & Newspaper Postage from
1st July to 30th Sept[September] 1846 1350.19
Do from 1 July " 30 " 1847 1594 27
Post Masters Coms from

By comparison of the above it will be found that in the Quarter ending 30th June 1847 the Postages received exceeded those of the corresponding Quarter of 1846 the sum of $159.34 while the compensation of the Post Master was less by $175.97 and by comparing the returns for the Quarter ending Sept 30th 1847 that the Postages received exceeded those of the corresponding Quarter of 1846 the sum of $244.08 while the compensation of the Post Master was less by $71.46
I also annex a Statement of the Quarterly Expenses of this Office which are paid out of my commissions

The Labors of the Office have also greatly increased being compelled to remain in the Office from 6 A.M. to 10 PM and three nights in the Week until 11 or 12 PM to receive and dispatch Mails Making from 16 to 18 hours labor to be performed daily
