To the Honorable, the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, in
Congress Assembled.
The undersigned, believing the transportation of the mail, and the delivery of letters
&c. on the first day of the week to be a violation of the Christian Sabbath; Opposed
to the rights of a numerous class of Citizens who conscientiously observe that day;
injurious in its effects on public morals; and unsupported by any plea of necessity
or convenience, while it gives offence to the feelings of the Christian Community,
hereby petition your Honorable body to redress the aforesaid grievance.
