To the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in congress assembled,
The undersigned, believeing the transportation and opening of the mail, and delivering of letters, papers &c; on the first day of the week to be a violation of the Christian Sabbath opposed to the rights of a numerous class of citizens, who conscientiously observe said day: injurious in its effects upon public morals, and unsupported by any plea of necessity or convenience, while it gives offence to the feelings of the christian community, hereby petition your honorable body to redress the aforesaid grievance.
