To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States in Congress;
The undersigned believing that the transportation and opening of the mail and the delivering of letters and papers &c on the first day of the week to be a violation of the Christian Sabbath, opposed to the rights of a numerous class of citizens, who conscientiously observe said day, injurious in its effects on public morals, and unsupported by any plea of necessity or convenience; while it gives offence to the feelings of the christian community, hereby petition your honorable body to redress the aforesaid grievance.
