To the Honorable Joseph Grinell, House of Representatives of the U States, and ^or^ Chairman of the Committee on Commerce,
The undersigned—Seamen’s Preachers and Missionaries in the Port of Boston, having seen a Report from your Committee proposing to sell the U States Marine Hospital and grounds situated at Chelsea, near Boston, and feeling deeply interested in all that concerns Seamen, respectfully remonstrate against the prosecution of a ^the^ plan, for the reason that the present location—in their judgments—is the best that the vicinity of boston affords.
First on account of its healthfulness: the Hospital buildings being situated near the centre of a ten acre lot, on a rising ground of some fifty feet elevation, fronting on Boston Harbour, open to the sea breezes, and enjoying scenery varied and beautiful in the extreme.
Second, on account of its accessibility. Removed from the noise and excitements of the City, its proximity nevertheless is such: as to afford easy access from both the City and the Shipping, affording thereby facilities for the free exercise of all the kind offices to the Sick and suffering mariner, that either humanity or religion may demand.
We add one additional reason for remonstrance which is, that the spot has become sacred in the eyes of Seamen their relatives and friends, being the last resting

place of many of the wandering sons of Ocean.
all of which is respectfully submitted
