your Petitioners humbly sheweth that are but two Mail Routs from Janesville Rock County to the northern part of this State one upon the East side of Rock River through fort Alkinson, the other Rout from Janesville in a North Westerly direction to Madison and that between said Routs there ^is^ a large Space or section of Country which is now thickly settled and ^that^ ^public^ public utility and Convenience require that an intermediate ^Mail^ Rout. be established for

Your petitioners therefore ask and request that a Mail Rout be established from Janesville by the Indian Ford on Rock River thence to Columbus in Columbia County for which your petitioners will ever pray &c
