Joint Resolution
Relative to the establishing of a mail route from Detroit to Michigan
Relative to the establishing of a mail route from Detroit to Michigan
Whereas the Grand River Road, so called, leading from Detroit to Michigan via Farmington,
Brighton and Howell is the shortest and most direct route from Detroit to the capitol
of the State;
And whereas, a daily line of stages has been established on said route and is now
in successful operation;
And whereas, there is no way for the intermediate points between Detroit and Michigan
to communicate with the seat of Government except by sending first to Detroit and
thence around by Jackson, thus causing great delay;
Therefore, Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Michigan,
That we deem it to be of the utmost importance to the inhabitants of the Counties
of Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and vicinity, that a daily mail route be established
on said road; and further, that in our opinion the extra Expense of the Post Office
Department would at once be met by the increase of business growing out of the establishment
of said mail route,
Resolved, That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be and they are hereby
requested to use all laudable means to procure the establishing of said route,
