An act in relation to the summoning Witnesses.
1Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, that hereafter the service of any Writs of Subpoena, to procure the attendance of
a Witness, may be made by leaving a Copy thereof at the usual place of abode of such
Witness, with any white person of the family, of the age of twelve years or upwards,
and informing such person of the contents thereof.

1Lyman Trumbull introduced HB 151 in the House of Representatives on January 30, 1841. The House passed the bill on February 6. On February 8, the
Senate referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary
reported back the bill on February 12, recommending its passage. The Senate postponed
indefinitely further consideration.
