1Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, that the compilation of the laws of this State, Published by Stephen F Gales2 shall be received in all Courts of Justice in this state as prima facie evidence that the statutes therein contained are the laws of [th]is State.

1On December 12, 1840, the House of Representatives adopted a resolution instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate the
wisdom of making the Statues of Illinois evidence in state courts. In response to this resolution, Albert G. Leary of the Committee on the Judiciary introduced HB 41 in the House on December 17.
The House passed the bill on December 21. On January 2, 1841, the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary
did not report back the bill.
