Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That the County Commissioners Court of Greene County, ^may^ hereafter allow to their clerk for exofficio services, any sum not exceeding one hundred Dollars annually, to be paid out of the County Treasury of said County.

1John Allen introduced SB 99 in the Senate on January 11, 1841. The Senate passed the bill on January 14. On January 21, the House of Representatives referred the bill to the Committee on Finance, of which Abraham Lincoln was a member. The Committee on Finance reported back the bill on January 23 with an amendment as a substitute, which the House amended. The House tabled the bill and the Committee on Finance’s report as amended.
