Sec. [Section]1. Be it enacted by the People of the United State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly,
That purchasers of lots sold by the Commissioners of the Illinois and Michigan Canal, in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty six, and forfeited by them, shall be entitled to so much of said lot or lots, as the money heretofore paid will pay for at the appraised value as made by the Commissioners previous to said sale.
Sec. 2. In the settlements of the accounts between the State and the purchasers of forfeited lots sold as aforesaid, the purchaser shall have the right to consolidate the money paid to such lots or parts of lots as they shall be entitled to under the provisions of this act. Provided that in the division of lots the division shall be made, in such manner as to take as much rear as front.
Sec. 3. When purchaser in applying the money heretofore forfieted shall only be entitled to a part of a Forfeited lot, they shall have the right, to the ballance of said lot by paying to the Commissioners, the value of such part of lot or lots, the valuation to be made by the Commissioners as in other cases, and payment to be made as follows. Towit one fourth in hand, and the balance in three equal annual instalments with six per cent interest in advance.
Sec. 4. The provisions of this act shall extend for six months from its passage and no longer,

all persons complying with act shall be entitled to a final certificate for the amount or quantity paid for at the time of settlement, and their accounts shall be canceled.
Sec 5. In case former purchasers of forfeited lots shall not comply with the provisions of this act in six months, the Canal Commissioners shall be authorized to collect rent from any occupant of said forfeited lots.
