Resolved that the committee on Finance be Instructed to enquire into the expediency
of so ammending the revenue Laws of this state as to authorise the county commissioners courts of the several counties of this state to appoint but one assessor annually and that the assessors be allowed untill the 20th day of August to make their returns to the clerk and that they report by Bill or

1On December 10, 1840, James M. Bradford introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives, and the House adopted it the same day. On December 24, the Committee on Finance
reported back and the House discharged it of further consideration of the subject.
