amend the amendment of bill by striking out all after the word commissioners in the 9^th line of same. And by adding after the same as an additional section the following

Se[Section] 3. That the Auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized and required to investigate the claim of Justus Post (late Chief engineer for the Illinois and Michigan Canal) against the state for services rendered in that capacity. and if after said investigation it shall appear that the state is indebted to the said Post or that all or any part ^of his^ said claim is just and unpaid, then and in that case the Auditor shall issue his warrant ^upon the Treasurer^ for the sum so acertained to be due and unpaid in favor of the said Justus Post. the same to be paid out of the canal fund.
