Resolved, That the President of the United States be requested to communicate to this House, at as early a day as practicable, copies of all orders & correspondence communications addressed ^sent^ by him, or from any head of any department ^of this Government^, to any officer of the United States, or other person claiming to act under the authority of the United States, ^within or for the territory of New Mexico;^ together with all replies, reports or communications from any officer or officers, civil or military, or claiming to be such under the authority of the United States, to the President or to any department of this government, such orders, communications, replies & reports having relation to the ^establishment &^ maintenance of civil or territorial jurisdiction, at Santa Fe, or in the territory of New Mexico on either side of the Rio Grande, since the 22d day of September 1846; & also that the President be requested ^to^ inform this House whether any appointments of officers have been made, or any elections held for a delegate to congress, members of ^a^ general assembly or territorial legislature, or other local offices, under the organic law or constitution, & the code of laws which were ordained & established by Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearney, for the territory of New Mexico, at Santa Fé, on the said 22d day of September 1846; & also whether any trials have taken place, & any executions by capital ^or other or^ punishment ^been^ inflicted, upon persons, ^at Taos or elsewhere in in said Territory of New Mexico^ for ^on^ the charge or ^for the^ crime of Treason, or for any

other ^civil^ crime or misdemeanor, whether such trials & executions were had & inflicted under civil or military law, & how the court or courts were constituted which rendered judgment entertained jurisdiction, or rendered judgment in any such case; & also that the President inform this House whether the appointment of a governor, secretary of the Territory, Marshal, United States district attorney, treasurer & judges of the Superior Court, in New Mexico, made by General Kearney ^on the 22d day of September 1846^ , & claimed by him in the order of said appointment, as “being duly authorized by the President of the United States of America”, was in fact authorized by him, or has been ^since by^ approved ^recognized^ or sanctioned ^or recognized^, & whether he has authorized ^recognized^, sanctioned1 or approved any such civil ap subsequent appointment to civil office in said territory of New Mexico; & also that the President inform this House whether compensation or salaries for official services have been paid or allowed to such civil officers in ^the territory of^ New Mexico, & if so out of what fund or appropriation of money, & by what authority of law.
