To the Hon. the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, in Congress
Assembled.
The undersigned the members of the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory
of Wisconsin respectfully represent: That the Rapidity of settlement of Northern Wisconsin
imperiously demands the establishment of a Mail Route from Fond du Lac at the head
of Winnebago Lake, by the way of Harrisville on Fox River, to Plaver Portage on the
Wisconsin River. By the establishment of this Route, there would be a saving of over
sixty miles of travel from Milwaukee to plaver Portage (The Wisconsin [?]) and more than a day and a half’s time in transmission of Mail. The distances of
the proposed Route from Milwaukee would be as follows to wit:
From Milwaukee to Fond du Lac sixty five miles; from Fond du Lac to plover Portage
(via Harrisville) Seventy (70) miles. This Route would also open a Mail Route in the
direction of the Waupau or Wolf River [?], some forty miles, as far as [Winwekonne?] Lake. And As in duty Bound your Memorialists &c,
