Resolved, That a committee of seven be appointed to consider and report upon the best means of further providing for the payment of the interest on the State debt, for the disposition of the system of internal improvements, and for the continuance of operations on the canal.
1Cyrus Edwards introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on February 20, 1841, and the House adopted it. The House appointed a select committee of nine persons, including Abraham Lincoln, pursuant to the resolution. On February 23, the select committee issued majority and minority reports, which the House tabled.
