Resolved, That Thomas Mather, President of the Bank of the State of Illinois, be requested to inform this House whether the Board of Directors of that institution, have adopted an order refusing to pay the Warrants issued by the Auditor of Public Accounts; and if so, when? and whether the Directors appointed for the State concurred in said order.
1John A. McClernand introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on December 16, 1840, and the House adopted it. On December 31 Thomas Mather, president of the State Bank of Illinois, responded to this resolution. The House referred this communication to the Committee on Banks and other Corporations. The Committee on Banks and other Corporations reported back the communication on January 5, 1841, and the House discharged the committee from further consideration.
