That in the opinion of the committee, the money appropriated for that purpose, had
been paid out according to law, and prayed to be discharged from the further consideration
of said report.
1On December 27, 1834, William Gordon introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives, requesting the Auditor of Public Accounts to furnish the House with information
relative to the hiring of clerks in the state Treasury Department. The House received
the response from the Auditor of Public Accounts on December 30, and referred it to
the Committee on Public Accounts and Expenditures, of which Abraham Lincoln was a member. On January 7, 1835, John D. Hughes reported the Committee’s response. The House then discharged the committee from further
consideration of the topic.
