Resolved, That the committee on Finance be instructed to report a bill to this House, abolishing the present Board of State House Commissioners, and providing for the
appointment of one Commissioner to superintend the completion of said State House.
And also, that they enquire into the expediency of re-organizing the Board of Canal
Commissioners, so that the Treasurer of said Board be required to perform the duties
of Secretary of said Board, and for the same

consideration that is now allowed, or which may hereafter be allowed to the Treasurer
of the Board of Canal Commissioners.21Newton Cloud introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on January 20, 1840. The House amended the resolution by adding the second paragraph.
The House adopted the resolution as amended.
