Resolved, That the Governor of the State be requested to furnish this House with such information as he may possess relative to the expenditures of money upon
the Illinois and Michigan Canal; also, the progress of the work, together with such other and particular information
as he may deem proper in relation to said work.
1On December 10, 1836, Augustus C. French introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives. On December 12, Governor Joseph Duncan responded to the House that when the Canal Commissioners made their report, he would communicate the requested information to the House. On
December 19, the Senate passed a resolution requesting much of the same information
from Duncan. On January 2, 1837, Duncan relayed to the House that he had received
the report from the Canal Commissioners, but that it was so long that it would take
some time to produce a copy for each chamber’s use. On January 13, the House received
the requested information from the Governor.
