Resolved by the General Assembly, (two-thirds concurring herein,) That it be recommended to the Electors of the state of Illinois, at the next general election for Representatives, to vote [f]or against2 a Convention [to] amend3 the Constitution of this State.
1On July 14, 1837, Robert Smith introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives. The House adopted the resolution by a vote of 52 yeas to 33 nays, Abraham Lincoln voting nay. On July 17, the Senate laid the resolution on the table.
