Resolved, That the committee on Internal Improvements be instructed to prepare and report to this House, a bill providing for the suspension until the first day of March, 1841, of all the public works commenced in this State, under an act entitled “An act to construct and maintain a general system of Internal Improvements.” And also for the preservation as far as possible of the property of the State procured under said act.
1Richard Murphy introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on December 13, 1839. Representatives rejected an amendment to exempt work on the State House. Representatives proposed exempting work in large rivers, and the House referred the bill and proposed amendment to the Committee on the Whole. On January 4, 1840, the Committee of the Whole struck out all after the word “resolved,” but the House refused to concur. The House tabled the resolution.
