Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, That the Attorney General be, and he is hereby, directed forthwith to institute
a judicial inquiry into the legality and conduct of said bank, and that he prosecute such inquiry by writ of quo warranto, or other legal process.
1On December 10, 1838, the House of Representatives appointed a select committee to investigate the incorporation of the city of Cairo and Bank of Cairo. On January 21, 1839, Richard Murphy of the aforesaid select committee submitted the committee’s report, together with
the resolution urging an inquiry into the bank. The House referred the report and
resolution to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary reported
back the report and resolution on January 24 with amendments, and the House tabled
the report, resolution, and amendments.
