Resolved, That the committee on Finance be instructed to inquire into the expediency of making
provision by law requiring county treasurers

to keep their offices at the county seats of their respective counties; and that
they report by bill or otherwise.
1George Smith introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on January 17, 1839, and the House adopted it. The Committee on Finance, on which
sat Abraham Lincoln, did not report the resolution back with a bill.
