Upon the creation of Henderson County, Illinois in 1841, The Illinois General Assembly placed it in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. The first term of the Henderson County Circuit Court was held in Oquawka on May 28, 1841. Stephen A. Douglas presided as judge. It remained in the Fifth Judicial Circuit until 1851, when the General Assembly moved it to the new Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. In 1859, the General Assembly assigned it to the Tenth Judicial Circuit.
