The Illinois General Assembly placed Lawrence County in the Second Judicial Circuit from Lawrence County’s creation in 1821. Lawrence County remained in the Second Judicial Circuit until 1824, when the General Assembly moved it to the Fifth Judicial Circuit. In 1827, the General Assembly moved Lawrence County to the Fourth Judicial Circuit, where it remained until 1859, when the General Assembly placed it in the newly-created Twenty-Fifth Judicial Circuit.
