Legislature of the State of Mississippi

Mississippi's first state constitution in 1817 created the Mississippi General Assembly, which was largely based on the United States Congress with a House of Representatives and a Senate. The 1832 Mississippi state constitution retained the House and Senate, but changed the name of both together to the Legislature of the State of Mississippi.
