New Hampshire Republican State Committee
State: New Hampshire
Opponents of the Kansas-Nebraska Act and Democratic policy in the Kansas Territory met in convention at Concord, New Hampshire, on January 8, 1857 to nominate candidates for governor, railroad commissioner, and the U.S. House of Representatives. Convention delegates selected a committee that became the first central committee of the Republican Party of New Hampshire. Following closely upon the 1856 Federal Election campaign, the State Central Committee canvassed the state and mapped out the upcoming gubernatorial and legislative campaign. Thanks to the work of the Central Committee, the Republicans won the governor's chair and control of the New Hampshire General Court in 1857.
