The True Democrat was a newspaper published in Joliet, Illinois, from 1847 to 1862. Originally a Whig paper, it later became a Republican paper. Alexander McIntosh published the True Democrat from 1847 to 1849 and from 1852 to 1856 with H. N. Marsh publishing the years in between. In 1856, Joseph L. Braden purchased the newspaper and in 1862, he changed the name to the Republican.
