When Woodford County was created in 1841, the Illinois General Assembly placed it in the Eighth Judicial Circuit. It stayed in the Eighth Circuit until 1857, when it was placed in the Twenty-First Judicial Circuit. In 1859, it was placed in the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit, where it stayed until after the Civil War.
