Robert H. Allison was a physician. He attended Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1834. He then studied medicine under Dr. Wilson Rutherford before attending Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Allison moved to Charleston, Illinois soon after receiving his medical degree and began practicing there. On May 6, 1843, he married Frances Jane Collom of Tennessee. As of 1850, they owned $500 in real estate and had three children together. Allison remained in Charleston, working as a physician, until his death. He died after a three-week long struggle with bronchitis.
