Anderson, Joseph

Joseph Anderson was a pioneer of Fulton County, Illinois. An Irishman by birth, Anderson served in the British Army during the War of 1812 but, after being captured by General Winfield Scott's forces, he decided to defect to the American side. After the war, he moved to Fulton County, Illinois, becoming the first settler in Banner Township, residing near Utica. In 1823, he moved to Canton, and in 1832 erected a cabin in the town. He lived in Canton until his death.
