Thomas Aspinall, merchant, was born in Halifax in what is now West Yorkshire, England. He relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and worked in the china and crockery line, partnering for a time in the firm of Aspinall & Brothers. He married Elizabeth Walton in St. Louis on January 10, 1854. The pair went to Newport, Rhode Island about 1859 for her health and ultimately settled there. In 1860, Aspinall described his occupation as gentleman, and owned real estate valued at $10,000.
