Biddle, Thomas (Saint Louis, MO)

Brother of Nicholas Biddle, Thomas engaged in a duel with Congressman Spencer D. Pettis on Bloody Island on August 26, 1831, over Biddle's attacks on Pettis during Pettis' bid for re-election in 1831, and over Pettis' criticism of Nicholas Biddle and the Second Bank of the United States. Both Biddle and Pettis died in the aftermath of the duel.
