Campbell, Quentin

Quentin Campbell was a prominent Philadelphian and father of Thomas M. Campbell. Campbell immigrated from his native Scotland to the United States around 1800, settling in Philadelphia, where he became a cashier of the Philadelphia National Bank. In 1805, he married Henrietta Harbeson at Philadelphia's Second Presbyterian Church. In 1835, he retired as cashier and became a director of the bank, a position he held until his retirement in 1859. An original stockholder in the Pennsylvania Fire Insurance Company, incorporated in 1825, Campbell became a director of the company in 1826, and in December 1839, the directors elected him president of the company, a position he held until he resigned in 1853. In 1839, Campbell also served as treasurer of the Philadelphia Atheneum. In 1860, he was retired and owned real estate valued at $10,000 and had a personal estate of $800.
