Alexander Church was a farmer and pioneer settler of Vermilion County, Illinois. While still a native of Virginia, Church married Ruth Caraway, with whom he would have ten children. In 1830, Church and his wife left Virginia for Illinois, settling in Vermilion County on a farm three quarters of a mile west of Catlin. In 1850, he owned real estate valued at $1,600. By 1860, the value of Church's real property had increased to $2,500, and he had a personal estate of $900.
