Dunlap, George A.

George A. Dunlap was a city councilman, court clerk, and merchant. In August 1838, he married Susan Connell, with whom he eventually had five children. Dunlap was involved in city leadership shortly after Jacksonville, Illinois received its town charter. He served on the city's council in 1844 and 1845. By 1850, he was working as a court clerk, and owned $3,000 in real estate. Ten years later, he was successfully laboring as a merchant. In addition to a personal estate valued at $500, by 1860 he also owned $4,000 in real estate.
